Live Like We Are Living
Pastor Ray’s sermon on Choosing to Live Before You Die prompts me to share in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This week marks 6 years of being cancer free! I share that with you so you can celebrate life with me. Celebrate God’s will for each life. And most importantly, celebrate Christ living in each of us.
The song “Live Like We’re Dying” by Kris Allen has a similar message. The song tells us the number of seconds in a day: 86,400. Many of the 86,400 seconds that go by each day during October I remember how cancer invaded my life. Telling anyone who experiences cancer to live like we’re dying is asking for a punch in the face. Is it because cancer may be viewed as a closer link to death or because mortality rates are advertised to those who don’t want to know them? Cancer is just a word with a heavy meaning. Some choose to interpret cancer as a death sentence. I choose to view it differently; and I beg to differ from Kris Allen’s point of view. I propose that we live like we’re living.
Gal 2:20 (NIV) says,
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
If we choose to live like we’re living, death has no power because Christ lives. Selfish ambitions disappear and our motives become Christ’s will for His greater glory. I quote Jesus:
John 14:19 (NIV)
“Because I live, you also will live.”
