Mark 10:17b “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

“The Lord looks upon this man and sees potential.” Pastor Ray catches my attention with only one of his words: Potential.

Potential brings the possibility to light. Heaven or hell? What have I decided? I know my answer. But then…

Mark 10:23-27 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God!” This amazed them. But Jesus said again, “Dear children, it is very hard to enter the Kingdom of God. In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”

The disciples were astounded. “Then who in the world can be saved?” they asked.

Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.”

No matter what I read, I keep thinking of the middle of it and not the end. Jesus tells us how hard it is to enter the Kingdom of God! Now a different potential brings more possibilities.

Is the glass half empty OR half full? I can’t do it OR I can do it. I have failed already and it’s no use now OR I have failed but I will try again. When it rains it pours OR I will dance in the rain. These lemons are sour OR I will make lemonade. I have sinned and therefore have fallen short of the glory of God OR I have sinned but after repenting and knowing Jesus saved me, I can live for Him.

Potential lives within me. This week I seem to walk a fine line that lives between the half empty and half full glass. The fine line of potential teeter-totters over each side. Potential lives in each of us not to threaten but to bring us to change. Reflect on where I am and where I want to be. How does it relate to my potential to inherit eternal life? Once I make my decision to follow Jesus, I can live for Him. Read the words to bring change. And in this case, think of the end: “EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE WITH GOD.”
